For more than three decades, Miriam Butt and Tracy Holloway King have been among the most influential voices in Lexical Functional Grammar and the Parallel Grammar project. Their friendship and intellectual partnership began when they were graduate students at Stanford and continues to this day. Throughout their careers, Butt and King have pursued an approach to linguistic grounded in rigorous empirical research, formal precision, and computational implementation. Their work has shown how theoretical insights and computational modelling can inform and strengthen one another, advancing both linguistic theory and practical applications, and inspiring linguistics around the world.
This Festschrift brings together contributions from former teachers, classmates, colleagues, students, and friends, reflecting the breadth of their impact – from syntax, morphology, and information structure to grammar engineering, language technology, and cross-linguistic analysis. The volume celebrates their enduring friendship, distinguished careers, and significant contributions to the field.
